On a fine Sunday Morning, when you wake up at 10:30 AM and till 11:45 have not taken a bath, these married people call you to try to make up for the Avoidance and surprisingly they have a GOOD plan too. :)
So.. we planned for Jejuri ... a temple, 45 KM away from Pune and their "Kul Devta".
The experience on the whole was awesome... Ghat, then highway, and the best part uphill stairs towards main temple.
Clicked lots of pictures....
This pic was while going from Pune via Hadapsar, a half an hour drive from IBM Ozone Office.
This would be a picturesque spot in Monsoon Season.
Another picture at the same spot, see the ghats covering almost everything. It felt amazing, when I actually saw this picture on my laptop. :)
We shopped for some fruits and Prashant even bought a bunch of Spinach from the vendor as she had only vegetables... :)
I tried to steal a small tomato from one of the fields, but the farmer saw that and called me.
I talked to him in Marathi "Kay Kaka, Chouri karai cha hot e na!!" (This is not fair Uncle, I was supposed to steal it !!!)
Hearing this, the farmer, his wife and I, all were laughing.
I always wonder why do we keep our deities inside a locked temple or room in Maharashtra? Never found the answer though.
The temple has a unique tradition of applying turmeric powder to the idols.
This is the temple of Lord Khandoba who is also known as Lord Shiva. Khandoba has five wives, Mhalsa and Banai/Banubai being the most important.
The main Khandoba temple.
Here Lord Khandoba with his third wife, Rambhai Simpin, is a tailor woman from Belsare village who was a heavenly nymph or devangana and is sometimes identified with Banai. She is a prototype of the Muralis - the girls "married" to Khandoba. She is the wife who goes for hunting with her Lord (ref Wikipedia).
The girl "Neha". Donot really know why I really clicked her and now uploaded this picture here.... She was sitting in one of the secluded temple in the Jajuri fort near the stairs. She was so silent, unlike other children of her age yet happy. (Just trying to put reasoning, I know it isn't sufficient).

Finally, back in Pune.
Near MG Road found this contemporary styled Auto Rickshaw and the proud owner let us click few photographs. (See the woofers at the back of passenger seat) :)
